Turkiye New Gas Discovery

 

At the time, I wrote the following on Turkiye's New Gas Discoveries... 

Turkiye’s President Rejeb Tayyeb Erdogan announced today August 21, 2020 that the biggest gas field ever discovered by Turkiye was in its Black Sea offshore territory. The discovered gas field is estimated to be 320 Billion Cubic Meters, which comes to around 12 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF) of good quality.

This represents about 10% of the overall gas reserves discovered in the East Mediterranean Sea (122 TCF as reported by the United States of America Geological Survey – a scientific agency of the US Government). This includes the 30 TCF of gas reserves at the ZOHR field of Egypt that was discovered by Italy-based ‘Eni’ in 2015. 

As per the Turkish announcement, Turkiye plans to put the new gas field into operation in the year 2023 that is considered to be a very tight schedule. Currently, Turkiye’s annual energy total bill is about US$ 40 Billion of which US$ 13 Billion for gas.

Failures from the Past Dont Stop Ambitions to the Future!

It is worth mentioning that, in the past, two American companies and one Brazilian company had failed earlier to find any oil or gas discoveries and decided to close their operations in Turkiye. Therefore, Turkiye decided to build its own vessels and operate them by its own human capital of professionals, scientists, engineers and expertise. Turkiye now has three vessels named ‘FATIH’ and ‘YAVUZ’ operating in the Black Sea while ‘KANUNI’ in the Mediterranean Sea. 

 


 

These vessels conduct their activities in waters down to 8000 meters deep using both 2-D & 3-D techniques.
